LP + Tetsu
#03-18 at Tanglin Mall
The ‘LP’ in this equation refers to one Michelin-starred Chef Laurent Peugeot & ‘Tetsu’ refers to Chef Tetsuya Yoshida, Head Chef at Tetsu, which was awarded the Regional Best Restaurant (2010) by Tatler.
Top left clockwise: Panfried Pigeon ($55), Parisian Mushroom Veloute, Burgundy Epoisses Cheese ($20), Escargot Tempura with Endamame
PG was really spoilt by a special menu with 9 - 10 courses if I do include the ‘pre-courses’! Many items are not listed on the menu. Every course was perfect in preparation as is presentation, awaking, engaging & exciting every one of my indolent senses!
From the mini parmesan pies (not in pic) that literally burst with flavour in your mouth to the panfried pigeon, crisp on the outside & amazingly tender right to the bone, subtly sweetened by beet & enriched in flavour by its own ‘jus’, served alongside jewel pellets of cucumber.
A definite must-try is the Burgundy Epoisses Cheese that should excite everyone & definitely cheese lovers beyond measure. Picture it as a savoury lava cake. Rip the crispy pastry package to get to a rich molten cheese centre. I assure you, there was not a drop of it left on my plate when they came back for it.
The ambience of this restaurant is dark & private with recess lighting in all the right places & designer glassware & cutlery (that you can purchase for your home). The chief elements deployed in the ID are dark rock & glass. And if at first the environment seems a little forbidding, allow the effusive warmth of the serving staff to settle you down & make you feel right at home.
There are several ways you can enjoy your gastronomical experience at LP + Tetsu. I would strongly suggest going all the way & parting with $190 + 60 (including 4 glasses of wines suggested by a sommelier) for the ‘surprise menu’ of 6 courses, a cheese platter & a surprise dessert.
If it’s your first time & you want to go easy, call in & make a lunch reservation for the ‘Encounters’ menu at only $45. ($58 if you want the cheese platter.)
Final note: It is no exaggeration when I say this is the best meal I’ve had in 2012! And I eat a lot & I eat everywhere. This is a dining experience you don’t want to miss! Check out the menu on their website: http://www.feecha.com/pierregoh/12132784
